Starting a blog
Introduction
Blogging is one of the best ways to get your voice heard. It's also something that takes commitment, but if you're passionate about your subject matter and have a way with words, then it could be worth it. If you're thinking about starting a blog but aren't sure where to start and what steps to take next, read on!
Pick a platform
WordPress.com is the most popular blogging platform, but it's also the most expensive. If you're just starting out and want to try out blogging before committing to a more comprehensive platform, go with WordPress.org.
Blogger is another free option that doesn't require any sign-up or login info from your visitors (though you can still use it if you want).
Squarespace has its own hosting service, so if you're looking for something more flexible than Blogspot or wordpress.com (like having complete control over your site), this could be right up your alley!
Create a name for your blog
The first step in creating a blog is choosing a name for your blog. You can use the same name as your Twitter or Instagram account, but keep in mind that some people may have trouble finding information about you if they don't know what your other accounts are called first. For example, while I write under the username "Rimsha," someone who Googles me may not see my Instagram post and assume that's where they should go to find out more about me!
If you're thinking of going with a username like this one, then I suggest checking Google Groups before making any decisions on whether or not it's worth keeping around long term—and make sure there's nothing offensive about either its spelling or pronunciation."
Choose a topic or niche that you're passionate about

Choose a topic you know a lot about
Choose a topic you are interested in learning more about.
Choose a topic that is unique and interesting to share with others online, especially if it's something that hasn't been done before on the Internet (e.g., "how-to" guides).
Figure out the best time for you to write
When it comes to your blog, you have many options when it comes to choosing a time to write. The best option is one that works well for you and allows you to be most productive.
If you are a morning person, consider writing in the morning. If you are an evening person, consider writing at night or on the weekend (or both!). If your schedule is flexible enough so that switching between these two times doesn't make much difference in how much content gets written each day but does allow more flexibility with other tasks like personal errands or family obligations then this might be ideal for what works best for YOU!
Consider creating a schedule for yourself
Now that you've decided to start a blog, it's time to decide how long you'll be blogging for. This is an important decision because if your blog isn't going to be around forever, then why bother starting one?
If you want your blog to last longer than six months (and who doesn't?), then consider creating a schedule for yourself. A routine will help keep things consistent and prevent burnout from occurring—which can happen when doing too much at once or trying too hard.
Creating a schedule isn't as easy as it sounds though! It takes work and commitment on both ends: The blogger has to make sure they're doing everything they need every day; meanwhile, readers need patience while waiting for updates every week/month etcetera...
Plan your content ahead of time
Planning is a great way to avoid writer's block and procrastination, which are the enemies of a successful blog.
While it's true that you can't plan everything, there are some things you should definitely take into consideration when planning your content.
Plan ahead: This will help prevent writer's block by giving yourself something to work towards at the end of your day or week. It also gives you an idea of what topics might interest readers so that when they come across something interesting in their search results, they'll be more likely to click through and read about it!
Keep it short: Readers aren't going to stay on long if every post is full of information (and doesn't have any photos). Make sure each post isn't longer than 500 words unless there's something extra special about it—for example, if someone has written a series on how they made an amazing cake with their kids' help—then maybe those posts could exceed 1k words total!
Create a posting schedule and stick to it.
The first thing you need to do is create a schedule. This can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be, but the point is that it needs to be there and sticked!
The easiest way I've found for creating a schedule is by using Google Calendar. If you're using an iPhone or Android device then there are apps that allow you to add things like "blog post" tasks or other events in your calendar so they'll automatically show up each week/month at set times (e.g., Monday morning).
Once the time has come for your blog posts, write them down on paper and stick them where everyone will see them (like on top of your computer monitor). Then just go through each day's scheduled posts one by one until all 15 have been written down—even if some days aren't perfect!
Blogging takes commitment, but it can be very rewarding.
Blogging can be a great way to connect with like-minded people, learn new things and grow as a person. It takes commitment but it's definitely worth it!
Conclusion
As you can see, starting a blog is not as daunting as it might seem. It does take time and commitment, but once you have the basics down, it’s relatively easy to keep on top of content creation. Now that we have covered the basics of blogging, it’s time for your next step: pick one platform (we recommend WordPress) and start posting!
